As referenced by Stacy Higginbotham, of GigaOm, TimeWarner recently went live with its tiered bandwidth capping policy. Comcast just announced it was also capping downloads to 250GB a month and countless others are threatening it. And in her article, 10 Things to Know and Hate About Metered Broadband, she ends it with a very valid point that we should all remember:
…regardless of what a few carriers in the U.S. are doing with caps, the web will continue to grow, both in terms of the number of users and the amount of data they consume. Caps won’t stop it, and neither will network management measures such as traffic throttling. If our broadband networks can’t meet that demand, the U.S. eventually could find itself lagging in the technology field.
If the US’s broadband isn’t competitive globally, the US will no longer be a center for innovation and growth.
Period.
This is the best explanation of Twitter I’ve ever seen. If you aren’t familiar with Twitter but are interested in learning how it has changed the way we communicate, watch this video.
I’ve been using a hack to publish my posts to Twitter. Everyone else uses TwitterFeed. So I figured I’d try it and see what it was like. Well, I didn’t even get to test out the service because it requires an OpenID login - which I do not have.
I’ve been hesitant to get an OpenID simply because I don’t want to be tethered to a single provider. I’ve been burned by that in the past and I’m very leery about trusting providers when, with everything about OpenID being so new, I don’t know anything about them. So what does anyone do in this situation?
Roll you own OpenID server, of course!!!
Thankfully, someone else took care of most of the work. I’m going to try phpMyID and tie it to another domain of mine. Not sure if this will work - or if its the right choice - but I don’t want to limit myself to one provider.
The bis question I have is what happens if I want to switch providers? Is the OpenID I create the only OpenID I can have? And has anyone successfully rolled their own OpenID server?
if anyone out there knows of a good OpenID provider (or bad one for that matter) or has had successes installing their own, I’d love to hear from you!

From Craziest Gadgets comes a YouTube video of a 22 year old who knitted a full scale Ferrari F355. You have to watch the video for all the details.
I don’t care what anyone says about knitting… this this is cool! Now if only she’d knit me a sweater…
